Jeff took a sip of his water before he returned his gaze through his scope. He had been tracking a guy for Empire City's Defense Force for around a couple days now, who killed anything that moved and raided caravans single-handedly. Apparently, he was extremely hard to track for the ECDF. Fuckin' pussies. Jeff had found his hideout an hour ago, and had set up his rifle, and his hood. Now all he had to do was wait for the fucker to come out of his hidey-hole. Jeff looked around, first at the door of the building Phil, the guy he was tracking, then around. Until he saw something. A little girl walking by the door.
"Shit." Jeff said as he saw Phil come out, a large cleaver in his hand. He yelled something Jeff couldn't hear, and headed straight for the girl. Jeff fired, and no less than a second later, the hollow point round pierced Phil's temple, and blew out the back of his head, leaving a gaping hole for all to see. He cycled the next round, and got up, grabbing his pack. He waved his rifle at the girl as he hooked up a repel line. He slid down the rope, and landed on the ground with a thud before he jogged up to the girl. He motioned to Phil's corpse.
"You crazy, girl?" Jeff asked as he walked over to the body and picked up the cleaver. Wrapping it in a piece of Phil's bloody apron, he stuffed it in his pack. He turned back to the girl. "Why the hell are you wandering the Ruins of New York City? Alone, no less?"

Vera Ellen wasn't incredibly equipped to deal with the zombie apocalypse. It was wasn't something she had expected. Her life had revolved around books and facts. Not hypothetical end of the world nonsense. Except, it wasn't nonsense. It had happened, and she had to deal with it. She was nose deep in Sylvia Plath's Ariel when she heard the first scream. A boy that she vaguely knew from anatomy class was nose deep in the librarian. Realizing that the next decision would determine if she lived or not, ViVi jumped on the table and pulled herself into the AC duct. Several students lay dead from the rush to get out and, of course, the zombie's victims. Someone who hadn't heard the madness walked into the library. He chased her back down the hallway. ViVi used this as her opportunity to escape.
She made it to her car with ease. Apparently, the zombies were too busy attacking the herds running in the opposite direction. She started her little blue beetle up and peeled out. After searching her house for far too long, she gave up and took her dad's pistol. She packed as much as she could in her car. Of course, there was no cell signal. She didn't even bother packing her phone charger. She wasn't sure where she'd go from her.
ViVi had taken back roads, filling up on gas and food when she needed to. She decided to head towards New York. She was starting to get tired of being alone. She had only come into contact with two undead so far, and, luckily, she had been victorious. As she pulled into the city, her car died. She let out a soft moan. This wasn't how she wanted to arrive. In the car, she didn't have to worry about the undead. She could usually get them off before they got to her. So, it was on foot from here on. She put on the hiking bag of clothes and food. She put the pistol in her jeans pocket. She walked around the buildings, trying to spot life.
When she heard him, she knew it was too late. She had put her guard down too much. Now, she would die from it. She turned around slowly. Just in time to see a bullet hit his skull, it seemed. She saw her savior. When he spoke to her, she looked up at him. He was quite a bit taller. "I was looking for people." Her voice was small and unsure. The apocalypse hadn't given this wallflower any confidence.

"I was looking for people." Jeff stared at her strangely. Looking for people? There haven't been any people here, barring EC, since... The sniper stared long and hard at the girl. "You don't know, do you?" Jeff sighed as he looked up. It looked like it was going to rain again. That had been happening a lot, recently. He glanced over at the open door, then remembered Phil's bloody smock. He looked back at the girl, before he turned and walked towards the building he had just occupied. He waved the girl to follow him.
"Well come on. Let's get some food in ya before I explain what you've been missing."
