SS-5. No one alive today has heard of it. Soldier Serum-5. It originated in Area 51. Research started in 1944, with scientists working on the first serum, SS-1.
They were trying to develop a serum to issue to their soldiers, allowing them to heal almost instantaneously. The experiment failed. The test subjects, rats, all died. So, they developed SS-2. The rats survived, and actually healed a little faster, but when they tried it on dogs, the dogs died.
So it went, until SS-4, after which the government put the experiment on hold. It was forgotten for a while, until the War on Terror.
It started in 2009. Scientists started working on SS- 5. That was when things went horribly wrong. Everything worked perfectly, and they started doing human testing. Splendid results.
However, it didn't last. The serum, once injected into the human body, evolved into a virus, reproducing at an accelerated rate, infecting the whole human body, starting with the major organs, until it reached the brain, where the decay produced parasites, carrying the virus.
From there, the eggs of the parasites gathered in the salivary glands of the victim, who basically becomes nothing but a puppet. The scientists weren't able to discover this until the test subjects had been sent to various army bases around the country.
At first, there was just a few isolated incidents, people didn't think much of it. It took about a week for the media to notice something strange, shocking, considering its the media.
The first time the word "Zombie" was mentioned was after one of them got hit by a speeding car in New York and continued to crawl around till someone with a brain came and smashed its skull in.
No one knew where it originated from. Some speculated it was part of a top-secret government experiment gone awry. They were blown off as being nut-jobs, but then, so was everyone that believed in Zombies... and now look where we are.
It was 4 months after the original infections in North America, and merely 2 weeks after it became an official "outbreak," that countries all over the world were reporting sightings. Every country on Earth closed it's borders, but they were to late. Zombies were already in almost every country on earth, and if they weren't, then they soon would be.
It took only a few weeks for the governments of the world to fail. The short-wave broadcast radios went silent. It was then we knew, we were truly on our own. Some panicked and started going crazy, others sought out religion, others sought an escape, and still other sought out survival.
It was that final group that is left, spread across the globe they exist, whether in a group or standing alone, they are the survivors. You are one of them. How will you fare in this apocalyptic dog-eat-dog world?
It is now 2015.
Yep. It's been seven years since the Outbreak. While humanity has started to recover, the undead are still a dire threat, ever changing, the viral parasite ever evolving to change the infected into more and more grotesque monstrosities. Humanity is still losing the fight for survival, both against the ever-changing undead and from within, but there are individuals out there, survivors, that fight the menace. Well, half of them, anyway.
The rest just want to see how much fun can be had in this apocalypse.
So, will you survive?
Will you just get into trouble for shits and giggles?
Or are you gonna die trying to do both?
I guess we'll find out, now won't we.
Welcome to Zombie-Land.
You hear that?
Dinner bell's a-ringin'!
